How To Prepare For Your Laboratory Investigation

Accurate laboratory results begin with proper sample collection. Follow these simple instructions before visiting our clinic.

Fasting Blood Tests

Tests like Fasting Blood Glucose (FBS) and Lipid Profiles (Cholesterol) require 8 to 12 hours of overnight fasting.

  • • Do NOT eat food, chew gum, or drink juices or tea with milk/sugar.
  • • You MAY drink plain water to stay hydrated (this makes vein collection easier).
  • • Come early in the morning between 7:30 AM and 10:00 AM.

Clean-Catch Urine Samples

For routine urinalysis and urine cultures to prevent contamination with surface bacteria:

  • • Wash hands thoroughly before opening the sterile sample container.
  • • Allow the initial small stream of urine into the toilet bowl.
  • • Catch the mid-stream urine directly into the container without touching the inner rim.
  • • Hand over the container to the laboratory technologist within 15 minutes.

Ultrasound Scanning Guide

Different ultrasound examinations have distinct acoustic preparation requirements:

  • • Pelvic / Early Obstetric: Drink 4–5 glasses (1 liter) of water 1 hour before the scan. Do NOT empty your bladder until after the scan.
  • • Upper Abdomen (Liver/Gallbladder): Fast for 6 to 8 hours to reduce stomach gas and ensure gallbladder distension.
